Synopsis Of "Legends, Leaders, Legacies"

What do you believe in so strongly that you would die for it?  The author takes a look at that question with the book "Legends, Leaders, Legacies" containing the biographies of 18 global leaders.  Each of these individuals had a passion for a cause, despite the consequences of where it might lead.  The leaders profiled include the following individuals:

  • William Wallace - a Scottish freedom fighter struggling for independence from England.

  • Joan of Arc - an illiterate teenager who received divine influence to help France.

  • Jose Rizal - an eye doctor who fought foreign oppressors and restored dignity to the Filipino culture.

  • Edith Cavell - saved lives through her nursing and through an underground operation helping Allied soldiers during World War I.

  • Rosa Luxemburg - an economist and socialist from Poland who believed in unions.

  • Emiliano Zapata - a farmer who turned into a Mexican revolutionary to protect his land.

  • Michael Collins - a patriot who fought and negotiated on behalf of Ireland.

  • Engelbert Dollfuss - a leader of Austria who tried to keep out the Nazis.

  • Sophie Scholl - a German college student involved in an underground movement opposing the Nazis.

  • Raoul Wallenberg - a Swedish businessman, who saved thousands of Jewish families during World War II.

  • Robert Capa - a photojournalist who documented five wars.

  • Martin Luther King Jr. - a Baptist minister turned civil rights activist.

  • Faisal ibn Abdul Aziz - worked for Saudi Arabia to modernize and become part of the international community.

  • Stephen Bantu Biko - an activist who opposed the apartheid of South Africa.

  • Anwar el-Sadat - a Muslim soldier and later president who believed in Egypt.

  • Indira Gandhi - part of the Nehru-Gandhi legacy pursuing freedom from Britain and developing India's recognition.

  • Yitzhak Rabin - a Jewish soldier turned diplomat in his fight for Israel.

  • Ahmad Shah Massood - an Afghani warrior who fought to protect his people from the Taliban leading up to the days before September 11, 2001.

This is a nonfiction book about leaders who made a significant contribution to history and reminds us of the power of one. Sometimes, it takes one person to serve as a catalyst to start a movement or idea larger than an individual need.  "Legends, Leaders, Legacies" provides a greater understanding of varying countries and cultures through the eyes of 18 leaders.  Their biographies present history in a unique way.
